Beyond Traditional Counseling

Even though life can bring tremendous sadness, there are ways to journey into the light and thereby experience a deeper appreciation and understanding of the brilliance of life. If you're experiencing symptoms of trauma, anxiety, stress, worry and mood challenges, you're not alone. We will jointly work to establish a solid foundation of skills and tools to establish and maintain balance between the mind and body. My counseling philosophy is eclectic, blending existentialism with neuroscience to provide the highest level of recovery following traumatic or life altering events.

I believe in the resilience of your spirit.

I believe in the power of living a mindful life.

I believe in living a life overflowing with appreciation and connection.

I am passionate about instilling meaning and purpose into every moment, and in helping you do the same.

Clinical Background

I use a trauma-informed approach with clients coping with psychological issues utilizing evidenced-based mindfulness, yoga therapy, a mind-body focus, and somatic release approaches including Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Brainspotting, Biofeedback, Clinical Hypnosis, Trauma-Informed Art Therapy® and the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).

I'm nationally known as a stress and trauma expert, having worked with survivors of the 9/11 terrorist attacks as well as adults and children impacted by the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. I've served as the Clinical Recovery Leader and Trauma Specialist of the Newtown Recovery and Resiliency Team created in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting and am embeded in the Sandy Hook Elementary School as a Staff Support Clinician.

What can I expect at my first visit?

Please arrive with your paperwork completed a few minutes prior to your scheduled appointment.  We will spend time reviewing the paperwork, discussing your concerns and learning more about you as an individual. This assessment can sometimes take several sessions to fully complete.  Most of the time, you can expect to leave with a plan for how your concerns will be addressed.

Will anyone be told about my counseling session?

No, counselors are legally and ethically guided by codes of ethics to protect your privacy. However, if you are under the age of 18, a parent generally must give their consent on your behalf. There are limits to confidentiality which are explained in the Informed Consent document and will be further discussed during your first appointment.

Cancellation Policy

As a counselor, I work as a service provider. My product is my time and expertise. When someone fails to appear for a scheduled appointment or cancels less than 48 hours before the appointment, I am unable to fill that time with another client. If you give me 48 hours’ notice of your intention to cancel your appointment, I will not charge you for the time. If you fail to provide 48 hours notice, a no-show fee of $175.00 will be charged. Please call me to cancel or reschedule any appointment only; email or text cancellations are unacceptable.

I am an out of network provider for most insurance companies and payment is due at the time of the session. You will be given a form that can be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement at the end of the session. Before scheduling an appointment, please contact your insurance company to determine if you have out-of-network benefits and if pre-authorization is required.

Fees are payable at the beginning of the session. Cash, Check and Credit Cards are accepted. Health savings Account and Family savings Account payments are accepted also.
